A graduate of New York’s LaGuardia School Of Music & Arts, Nicki Minaj has risen to become Pop’s most renown Rapper, scoring more US Hot 100 singles than any other Female MC in chart history.
So, by way of her ever engaging public image, FOX’s ‘American Idol’ enlisted the starlet to sit on their Season 12 panel, perhaps hoping to capitalize on her experiences as a Contemporary act.
However, it seems ‘Check My Resume’ singer T-Boz is far from impressed by Idol’s decision to hire Minaj, questioning her ability to judge fresh talent.
Her remarks below…
On celebrity talent show judges, she explained:
“I don’t respect half [of] the people I’ve seen lately. How the hell is she gon’ tell me what I should be doing when her azz can’t even sing. Why is she there? And then…now they’ve got rappers that don’t even sing judging? So, this is totally based off of popularity I guess. I mean, to each their own. Get your money, honey. All I’m saying is, I will never watch [your] shows again.”

With her own career slowly but surely finding its feet again, here’s hoping T-Boz‘ comments aren’t misconstrued, and used to paint her as a dated star spewing what some might call ‘uninformed hate’ against the likes of Britney, Jennifer Lopez and of course, Nicki Minaj.
For, in what we thought was obvious to everyone, television has always been based on popularity, with the ‘biggest’ acts more likely to pull in the audiences shows like ‘Idol’ need to sustain.
For, as an artist who was never renown for her own vocals, we doubt Boz would turn down the opportunity to judge on any of ‘those shows’ if given the chance.

Watching a show about folk who have “singing” talent requires that the judge has years of expertise in order to come to such a conclusion! No one would give you a job as Executive Vice President of bank, when you have only worked at the cash register of McDonald’s. Why? Because of you merely used a cash register doesn’t make you an authority on banking and banking regulations!
I love music and have been signing since I was a child and nothing disturbs me more than to see folk making decisions, when they can’t evening sing as well as me. So, the show promoters can expect to do as they are doing, choosing the less talented folk and sending the send talented people home. Where are all the record sales for the winners, who were selected by the shows so-called judges, of the last 5 years of Idol??????????
I have no idea what it is the Nicki Minja is supposed to be doing but whenever it comes on, I turn the channel! There are not enough folk being produced today who cause me to spend the money I’ve earned on this stuff. I used to spend a fortune purchasing entire records or CDs, not just on a single download. Then, today’s record company decision-makers force talented folk to make JUNK music, which doesn’t sell. This is what happens when folk are given jobs they aren’t qualified for!

When popular producer (neptunes, rodeny jerkins, etc) worked with them they told them we don’t wanna sound like anyone or anything you did; new sound will be made. Do your history/homework. This is not disrespect so keep it laid back. and one last thing their songs were not written by left eye, left eye wrote her parts. TLC worked with many songwriters as well as T-boz developing and co-writing one of their #1 and grammy winning hits “unpretty”.

I adore TLC, they’re some of my all-time favorite artists of all time but EVERYONE with ears knows that t-boz could NEVER sing. And I will never understand why people constantly make it seem like Nicki is the first person on Idol to have no true singing expertise. Idol has had people like Ellen Degeneres and Jennifer Lopez, these people can’t sing. I love t-boz but this comment makes her seem like a hater.

Like really, why does everybody hate Nicki? Cause for one, I would think that popular people will get the popular jobs/performances. American Idol ain’t gone go around look’n for Will Smith, Lil Kim, and in this case T-Boz. These all may be legends (Except Kim) but nobody is looking for them musically so nobody won’t care for them judging people. It’ll be like “where he/she been?” Now if they pic people like Nicki, Beyonce or Katy Perry, OF COURSE people will watch. They’re what’s happening!
Two, Nicki Minaj will clearly be Nicki Minaj until Nicki Minaj is no more. Clearly she’s still around if she’s on people’s CD’s, American Idol, releasing shit and making music. So all the hate don’t do shit. You know everything about her negatively but your not fans so you won’t understand where she comes from. I agree to a certain extent.
If you’re a singer known for lipping and not just to reserve your vocals. But for the fact that you really can’t sing. I would feel some type of way being judged by you. However my chorus teacher sounded like fucking crap. Everytime I had to hear her sing I’d literally have to bite my tongue not to get thrown out of class. She was just awful however she was a damn good teacher and got us superior ratings all four years of high school. So it just depends on the person. You don’t have to be a singer to have a good ear or to even know what will work in the industry. You also don’t have to disrespect these artist just to try and prove a point. TLC’s first album sold more than both of nicki’s albums put together. T-Boz,Chilli,Debra killings are the only singing voices that you heard on TLC. Left Eye couldn’t sing. Left eye was the crazy rapper and that’s why she stood out.

She isn’t the first to question Nicki Minaj having any business judging singers. Yeah, Nicki may compel her silly ass 12-15 year old fans to watch the show, but no one is going to respect her opinion about anything. She’s the weakest link and biggest joke of everyone on the current panel. And not just because she can’t sing herself, but because she isn’t even respected in the music business. No, Ellen, Simon and L.A. Reid can’t sing a note either, but all three of them are very reputed and respected in the entertainment industry. Paula, Britney and Jennifer are poor singers, but all of them have had long, established careers and have accomplished so much that they have EARNED the clout to have their words heeded.
What the fuck is Nicki Minaj? She’s not respected or admired. No one born before 1994 even takes her seriously as a music star. All she is is some “of-the-moment” entity who has the words “passing fad” virtually tattooed on her fucking forehead. She hasn’t proven herself to be more than a flash in the pan and no one respects or admires her enough for her opinion about anything to really matter.
Far as T-Boz goes, I don’t give a shit if she is in financial default and can’t afford to pay her bills; that’s her business. All that matters to me is that I know T-Boz, her work, her time in the business, her legacy and what she accomplished as the lead singer of TLC (and five Nicki Minaj albums wouldn’t be worth one TLC album.) I would listen to T-Boz giving her perspective of music, the music business, and Idol hopefuls over fucking Nicki Minaj any and every day of the week.

For the person that asked would people watch the show if they didn’t have “celebrities” on there. The answer is HELL YES. Most people watch the show for the talent in the competitors. Let’s not forget how American Idol’s rating were massive a few years ago when no one knew who Randy was, no one knew who Simon was, and my generation barely knew Paula. Their ratings even beat the Grammy ratings when they aired simultaneously one year. Now of course we know the Grammys has the actual celebrities so that should tell you and the AI producers something. If Britney couldn’t help XFactor’s ratings then you know Nicki ain’t gonna do nothing but tarnish AI’s credibility. There’s no way she should’ve even been considered as a judge. She has no talent and little experience.

TLC is legendary. 3 iconic albums, 3 iconic era. TLC slayed the early 90′s, the mid 90′s and the late 90′s. TLC was the motherfucking shit!!! They HUSTLED and slayed the industry OLD SKOOL the hard way. Radio tours, a dozen performances of each song, remixes, HUSTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TLC will live on forever. Why the fuck you think 20 years after they debuted people still talk about them and LOVE TLC. I’m tired of all the stunt castings of celebrity judges for these reality show talent competitions. Neither Nicki nor Mariah is going to inspire legions of new viewers to tune in. The ratings might see a momentary bump for the first few episodes, then they’ll drop again. All of the “names” (Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Ellen, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban) they’ve brought on in recent years have just been a desperate attempt to stop the hemorrhaging of dipping ratings, and it doesn’t work. Idol’s ratings were at their all time high when it was just previously unknown Simon, previously unknown Randy, previously unknown Ryan and hasbeen Paula. Back then it was about the contestants; now it’s become a vanity show that’s too much about the celebrity judge. Boring. The numbers have been slipping for years because people have become disinterested in the show. They’ll continue to slip until it’s finally cancelled. Doesn’t matter what big name they throw undeserved millions at to come on as a judge.
